Brisbane’s annual dance spectacle Battle City is back once again Battle City returns with a host of local and interstate hip hop talent joining forces to compete and perform at one of Australia’s longest running dance events. Brisbane City Council in association with Knee Deep proudly presents the 9th annual Battle City on Friday, 16 April at 7pm in King George Square. Battle City brings a block party vibe to the city centre, providing a platform for Brisbane’s B-Boys and B-Girls (breakdancers) to showcase their skills to a soundtrack of high energy hip hop and funk in a bid to take out the $400 winner takes all cash prize. Battle City is one of the highlight events of Council’s ‘Get Loud’: National Youth Week program of events, workshops and activities. Since its introduction in 2002, Battle City has attracted the best local and interstate talent; even Gwen Steffani’s world famous tour dancers Legacy and Flea Rock have entered the Battle City arena. Bgirl Demilition (A.K.A. Demi Sorono from So You Think You Can Dance) returns to Battle City on the judging panel this year alongside, her equally talented brother, Carlo (Bboy Jester), and local legend Bboy Riot. Entertainment will include performances by some of Australia’s most talented and emerging DJs, dancers and MCs including DJ Mathmatics, Rainman, Bgirl Demilition, Yuin Huzami, Liones, MC Que, DJ Bacon, 2 Days Apart and more. Crews of a maximum four dancers must register on the night only at 6.30PM. No age restrictions apply. Spectators will enjoy birds-eye views of the dance action via tier stadium-like seating.
